The Islamabad High Court (IHC) remained a focal point of political and judicial activity in 2024, grappling with a large influx of cases, notably involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and others. Additionally, the court rejected a petition seeking disqualification of Imran Khan for allegedly failing to disclose Tyrian White in his election nomination papers.

In other notable decisions, the IHC ordered the recovery of 91 of the 95 missing Baloch students and the missing poet Ahmed Farhad.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar appeared before the court regarding the missing persons cases, for which a larger tribunal has been constituted.

In a related case, the court sentenced Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to six months in jail and SSP Islamabad to four months, along with fines, for their role in the detention of Shehryar Afridi.

The court granted PEMRA's petition against a ruling banning court reporting and ordered telecommunications companies to refrain from recording customers' phone calls in the audio leak case.

Structural changes also marked the year, with the number of IHC judges increasing from nine to 12.

Contempt proceedings were initiated following social media campaigns against judges, and plenary hearings were convened for several cases.

Moreover, a ruling convicting Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the iddat case was set aside by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka.
