Envoy says Trump invited China's Xi to inauguration
Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said Thursday that US President-elect Donald Trump invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his inauguration on January 20.
In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Romualdez said the invitation was informal.
“So those who were invited by President Trump, he's very informal, he invited President Xi… the Hungarian president called him so it's very informal… now he said in the interview that if they wanted to come, they came,'” Romualdez said.

The Philippine envoy stressed that no formal invitation had been extended to heads of state to attend Trump's inauguration.
Romualdez had earlier said that only ambassadors represented in Washington were invited to the event, as a matter of principle.
GMA News Online contacted the US and Chinese embassies in Manila for further details on Trump's alleged invitation to the Chinese leader. Both offices have not yet responded at the time of publication.
As a reminder, Xi called for “stable, healthy and lasting” relations between Beijing and Washington in a message addressed to Trump after his election victory.
Trump returns to the White House after defeating US Vice President Kamala Harris for the US presidency in the November election.
Earlier, Romualdez was asked if President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was invited to Trump's inauguration, the diplomat replied: “For political reasons, no head of state is invited.”
“Only ambassadors represented in Washington are invited,” he said.
