OCCRP's clarification of accusations against Jokowi seen as reminder

Jakarta: The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) clarifies the accusations against the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The organization admitted that it had no evidence that Jokowi was considered a corrupt figure.

This is considered a reminder for the Indonesian people. Anything disclosed by foreign parties is invalid, so all parties are requested not to be easily provoked.

“Don't let yourself be provoked by foreigners by the hands of organizations that appear independent even if they defend the interests of certain parties,” said For Bejo (For Behind Jokowi) General Chairman Sugeng Budiono in a written statement Friday January 1st. 3 2025.

He reminded the Indonesian people to always maintain the grace of the President and former President of the Republic of Indonesia. Because being president is not an easy thing. Only the best sons and daughters of the nation are capable of fulfilling this mandate.

“Strengthen unity and maintain the good graces of the nation and the state, including the good graces of the president and former president,” Sugeng concluded.

On the other hand, he saw that recognition of OCCRP was inseparable from criticism of Indonesian figures. One of them is Haidar Alwi Institute (HAI) founder R Haidar Alwi.

According to him, Haidar Alwi was the first to criticize the OCCRP publication on Jokowi. He saw this as an effort by Haidar to maintain Jokowi's good graces.

“Haidar Alwi managed to maintain Mr. Jokowi's reputation in the eyes of the world. Thanks to him, the OCCRP finally recognized the weakness of its research because it did not have evidence, said Mr. Jokowi corruption,” Sugeng said.

According to him, Haidar Alwi's criticism is the most important. Because he managed to refute OCCRP's accusations, arguing that no valid data had been presented and that the publication was based solely on surveys.

“He was able to reveal the weaknesses and quirks of the research methodology published by an organization like OCCRP. His criticisms were valid and difficult to refute,” Sugeng explained.

Haidar Alwi Institute (HAI) founder R Haidar Alwi said that not all forms of criminality can be proven through surveys or opinion polls.

“Proof of crimes or violations of the law comes through trials in court. Not through polls or opinion polls,” emphasized R Haidar Alwi, Wednesday January 1, 2025.

According to him, to date, no court ruling has found Jokowi guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption. The allegations of organized crime during the presidential election to win one of the candidate pairs have also not been proven before the Constitutional Court (MK).

“If the methodology is correct, the OCCRP jury should not have adopted the name proposed by Jokowi. Because how can you include someone's name on the list when there hasn't been a single court decision finding them guilty of the alleged crime? a real mistake,” said R Haidar Alwi.

OCCRP has clarified the attribution of the nomination. Including regarding the selection process and overcoming several misunderstandings.

OCCRP has no control over who is nominated, as suggestions come from people around the world. This includes the appointment of former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, known as Jokowi, the official OCCRP statement highlighted.

OCCRP included Jokosi, among the finalist nominees who garnered the most support online and had some basis for inclusion. They even admitted that they had no proof of Jokowi's involvement in corruption.

OCCRP has no evidence that Jokowi engaged in corrupt acts for personal financial gain during his term, the NGO's statement said.
