Blackpool Conference Center attracts millions of people to town
High-profile events include the annual conference of the National Association of Retired Police Officers which attracts around 800 delegates, while the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches brings together 1,000 people over two days.
The GMB union is booked for its annual conference in 2026, while the Local Government Association has also booked its annual conference for 2027.
Business tourism is now managed by MeetBlackpool, a partnership between VisitBlackpool, Blackpool Council, Winter Gardens and other conference industry partners, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
A report to the committee said: “This convention bureau style approach aims to make best use of the resources of the council and Winter Gardens to attract new conferences and events to Blackpool.
“The main aim is to bring businesses to the new centre, although MeetBlackpool is also responsible for ensuring that inquiries for smaller conferences are directed to partner resorts which also have conference facilities and meeting.”
The Imperial Hotel in North Shore has also seen success in the conference sector with a 16% year-on-year increase in meetings and events revenue in 2024.
Hotel general manager Trevor Vels said bookings for this year have already increased by 23 percent.
