As farmers in Punjab and Haryana revived their protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the government had continuously increased MSP on many crops over the last 10 years. Inaugurating the Bharat Grameen Mahotsav 2025 in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that policies to promote agriculture and provide a dignified life to people in villages were the priorities of his government.
“In the last 10 years, many policies have been implemented to promote agriculture. We have also continuously increased the MSP on many crops in the last ten years. The aim is that farmers and locals of the village get better prices for their products.” » said Prime Minister Modi.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that farmers have received financial assistance of around Rs 3 lakh crore through Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi and farm loans have increased 3.5 times in the last 10 years.
Farmers of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (apolitical) revived their protests against the Center and staged a sit-in on the Punjab-Haryana border. The protests took a new turn after their leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, began an indefinite fast on November 26.
The farmers demanded a law guaranteeing purchase of all crops at MSP, debt waiver for all farmers and withdrawal of all cases against those who protested against the now withdrawn 2021 farm laws.

Pointing his gun at the Congress, PM Modi accused the previous governments of not paying attention to the needs of SCs, STs and OBCs. He also accused the Congress of “attempting to disrupt social harmony” in the name of caste politics.
These remarks appear to be an attack on the Congress and Rahul Gandhi's pet demand for a caste census in the country.
“Migration out of villages has continued, poverty has continued to grow, the gap between villages and towns has continued to widen. The ones no one asked, Modi loved them (Modi listened to those no one cared about)… Areas that were deprived of development for decades are now enjoying equal rights,” he said.

Outlining his government's vision to empower people in rural India, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the purchasing power of village residents had almost tripled compared to 2011.
