Trump complains that flags will be flown at half-staff to honor Jimmy Carter on Inauguration Day

President-elect Donald Trump has spoken out against the order that American flags be flown at half-staff to honor the late President Jimmy Carter, complaining that they will be in that position for the first time during the inauguration a future president.

Trump had a strained relationship with Carter, who died at the age of 100 on December 29, although it was significantly less rancorous than his relationships with other former Democratic presidents. Trump called Carter the worst president and mocked his presidency by attacking Biden during the 2024 presidential campaign. Carter also criticized Trump's behavior and suggested that his victory in the 2016 election was not legitimate, citing Russian interference.

However, after Carter's death, Trump wrote an article about him on Truth Social, devoid of attacks, saying that Carter was doing everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. He also said he would attend Carter's funeral.
