Akurasi.id – Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) faced a digital attack in the form of doxing after publishing the results of an analysis reinforcing the findings of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which nominated President Joko Widodo as a corrupt figure and involved in organized crime in 2024. This attack exposed personal data of ICW researchers, including names, addresses, KTP numbers and other sensitive information, which was distributed via social networks by the Instagram account @volt_anonym and re-uploaded on X (formerly Twitter) by the account @MurtadhaOne1.

Regarding this attack, ICW considers that it is a form of intimidation aimed at silencing critical voices against the government. ICW public campaign coordinator Tibiko Zabar Pradano said the attack was linked to ICW's response to the OCCRP release, which highlighted alleged corruption within Jokowi's government. Agus Sunaryanto, coordinator of ICW, considers doxing a violation of the Personal Data Protection Act and highlights the danger it poses for the safety of researchers.

Meanwhile, internationally, OCCRP awarded the “Person of the Year in Organized Crime and Corruption” award to deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and nominated Jokowi alongside several other figures internationals, such as Kenyan President William Ruto and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Although OCCRP found no direct evidence of Jokowi's corruption, the report criticized his government's policies, particularly regarding the weakening of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and institutions electoral.

Jokowi denied the accusation and stressed that the criticisms were not accompanied by concrete evidence, even considering them slander with potential political content. Projo Secretary General Handoko also defended Jokowi's performance in eradicating corruption and developing Indonesia. However, scholars and anti-corruption experts such as Totok Dwi Diantoro believe that during the era of Jokowi's administration, there was a phenomenon of systematic weakening of the Corruption Eradication Committee and a decline of the Indonesian Corruption Perception Index score.

This case has sparked widespread debate about the effectiveness of eradicating corruption in Indonesia and the impact of digital attacks on freedom of expression. Indonesian law enforcement agencies, such as KPK Chairman Setyo Budianto, have emphasized the importance of clear evidence in pursuing legal action against Jokowi.
