The $190 million settlement verdict against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi is likely to be “postponed again”, which is scheduled for Monday (tomorrow), sources told Geo News.

The verdict announcement was scheduled for Monday (tomorrow).

The court of accounts had reserved the verdict on December 18, after the conclusion of the debates, and had set December 23 for the announcement of the judgment.

However, the verdict was postponed to January 6, 2025. The sources said the lawyers would be informed of the new date tomorrow.

The development comes amid ongoing negotiations between the Imran Khan-founded party and the federal government, with both sides expected to hold a third round of talks next week.

The government has asked the former ruling party to submit in writing its “charter of demands”, with the PTI demanding the release of political prisoners, including party chief Imran Khan, as well as the initiation of a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9, 2023 and the repression of November 26.

Referring to the expected verdict in the 190 million case, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a statement that the ongoing negotiation process would not be affected even if the party founder was convicted in the case. .

Also known as the Al-Qadir Trust affair, the former prime minister, his wife Bushra and others were accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of causing a $190 million loss to the Treasury national via a regulation between the PTI. government and real estate tycoon.

During the year-long trial, the NAB recorded testimonies of 35 witnesses, including former principal secretary Azam Khan, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervez Khattak and former federal minister Zubaida Jalal.

The case is part of the plethora of legal challenges facing the incarcerated PTI founder who has been behind bars since August last year after being convicted in the Toshakhana-I case.

The anti-corruption watchdog had filed an appeal against Khan, Bushra and others in December 2023 over the alleged settlement.

According to the charges in the case, Khan and other accused at the time allegedly adjusted the Rs 50 billion 190 million sent by the British National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government as part of the tycoon deal real estate.

Later, the Al-Qadir Trust was established in Islamabad weeks after the PTI-led government approved the deal with the real estate tycoon.

One year trial

The accountability watchdog arrested the PTI founder on November 13 last year in connection with the said case. The NAB then interrogated Khan and Bushra for 17 days in Adiala jail.

The trial began after the referral was filed with the NAB on December 1, 2023. On February 27, 2024, charges were officially filed against the couple.

Notable witnesses against the PTI founder included his former cabinet member Pervez Khattak, former federal minister Zubaida Jalal, former principal secretary Azam Khan and chief financial officer of Al-Qadir University.

The court also declared six co-accused, including Zulfi Bukhari, Farhat Shahzadi, Mirza Shahzad Akbar and Zia-ul-Mustafa Nasim, absconders, ordering freezing of their assets and bank accounts.

During the proceedings, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to the disqualified Prime Minister under the 190 million benchmark, while the trial court approved pre-arrest bail of Bushra.

The PTI founding president submitted a list of 16 witnesses to the court, but the request for summons was rejected.
