Pakistan: Verdict in £190m case against Imran Khan postponed to January 13

Islamabad [Pakistan]January 6 (ANI): The verdict in the £190 million case involving jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is now expected to be announced on January 13, according to court staff accounts from Islamabad on Monday, The News International reported.

Court staff attributed the delay to Justice Nasir Javed Rana being on leave and confirmed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and PTI legal advisor were informed of the postponement.

This is the second postponement of the verdict in the Al-Qadir Trust case, initially reserved for December 18. The announcement was originally scheduled for December 23 but was also delayed to that date.

Earlier in December, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had renewed allegations of corruption in the Al-Qadir Trust case against Imran Khan.

Asif said Imran's four years of rule were marked by unprecedented levels of corruption. “There has been a lot of corruption in the last 75 years, but Imran Khan has broken all records,” Asif said, adding that Imran and his entourage were deeply involved in corrupt activities, Dawn reported.

Notably, in December 2023, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption case against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and several others. The case centers on allegations that the couple obtained billions of rupees and hundreds of canals of land from Bahria Town in exchange for legalizing PKR 50 billion returned to Pakistan from the UK during the tenure of the PTI government.

The NAB had launched an investigation into the alleged gain of hundreds of acres of land belonging to the Al-Qadir University Trust, saying it had caused a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.

According to the charges, Imran Khan and other accused in the case allegedly misallocated PKR 50 billion (equivalent to £190 million at the time) which had been sent by the Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA). -United with the Pakistani government, ARY News reported.
