Imran Khan “denounces postponement of verdict of 190 million cases”

RAWALPINDI: Amid ongoing talks between the main opposition party and the coalition government to resolve political differences, jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Monday criticized the postponement of the verdict in the 190 million case by calling it a “pressure tactic”. leaders.

The statement comes after the Islamabad accountability court postponed the verdict in the case to January 13 earlier today.

This is the third time that the verdict reserved on December 18 in the said case, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case, has been postponed although it was to be announced on December 23 and then on January 6.

Aleema said the PTI founder “wants them to convict him so that the whole world knows what kind of case this is.” She said Imran would immediately challenge the accountability court's verdict in the High Court if convicted.

Criticizing the leadership, Imran's sister said the government was giving the impression that the PTI founder wanted to come out of jail after entering into an NRO-style deal.

NRO is a term derived from former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf's National Reconciliation Ordinance of 2007, aimed at granting amnesty to politicians, political workers and bureaucrats accused of corruption, money laundering money, murder and terrorism.

She also claimed that the government tried to expel Imran from the country for three years and then offered him “house arrest” in exchange for “keeping silent” to let the outgoing president function.

She said Imran insisted on securing his release after proving his innocence through a legal battle.

Aleema also dismissed the impression of “background discussions” with the PTI founder, saying Imran had made it clear that no behind-the-scenes developments were taking place other than negotiations between the former ruling party and government committees .

“The founder of the PTI had given an agenda to his dialogue committee in two points, including the constitution of a judicial commission on the incidents of May 9 and November 26 and the release of political prisoners,” he said. she reiterated.

The ex-prime minister also urged the government to expect only a quick response from the PTI after showing seriousness in negotiations on controversial issues from its side.

“Things will move forward after the PTI dialogue committee meets Imran to brief him about the developments, however, he is not allowed to meet him till now,” she added.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also spoke to reporters outside Adiala Jail today.

He stressed that a meeting with the PTI founder was necessary before the third round of negotiations with the government.

With ongoing negotiations between the main opposition party and the government failing to make progress despite two rounds of talks, the impasse between the two sides has been attributed to the failure of PTI negotiators to meet their jailed party founder , Imran Khan, and to submit written requests to the government, sources told Geo News.

The PTI chairman hoped that they would meet Imran tomorrow and also clarified that Bushra Bibi was not part of the negotiation process.

He categorically refuted rumors of “clandestine talks” with the former prime minister's wife alongside the PTI dialogue committee which held two meetings with the government.

He reiterated that the PTI founder had given a deadline for the dialogue, referring to the “deadline” of January 31.

Commenting on the 190m case, Gohar said Imran “did not gain any personal benefit from the Al-Qadir Trust case and wants to see the verdict.”

He said witnesses had also informed the court that the PTI founder had no direct connection in the case and were hoping for the acquittal of Imran and Bushra.

The former prime minister, along with his wife and others, have been accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of causing a loss of 190 million euros to the exchequer through a deal between the PTI government and a real estate mogul.

The case is part of the plethora of legal challenges facing the incarcerated PTI founder who has been behind bars since August last year after being convicted in the Toshakhana-I case.
