Aleema Khan alleges government is slandering Imran Khan

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has accused the coalition government of deliberately maligning her brother, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, she claimed that the government was trying to create the impression that Imran Khan was seeking a deal similar to the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) earlier granted to political figures.

Aleema alleged that the ruling coalition had spread rumors about Imran Khan's involvement in backroom negotiations.

She claimed the government had tried to force the former prime minister to leave the country for the past three years and then considered placing him under house arrest to silence him.

“These messages did not come to us directly but through various sources,” she said.

Aleema clarified that apart from the PTI negotiating committee, no other communication channel exists. She said Imran Khan presented a two-point agenda for the committee: formation of a judicial commission to probe the events of May 9 and November 26 and release of innocent PTI workers detained during political repression.

She stressed that Imran Khan's main demand is that the rule of law should prevail and PTI workers should have their innocence proven in court.

Aleema also addressed the £190million case against Imran Khan, claiming it was fabricated to put pressure on him. “He (Imran Khan) wants verdicts in these cases to be delivered. He is not afraid of suffering the consequences,” she noted.

Terming the reference as illegal, she argued: “Children receive free education in this institution. The PTI founder is even ready to accept this so-called crime if it means justice will be served. Someone must answer for the operation carried out on November 26.”

She added: “After November 26, circumstances changed. We will continue to raise our voices despite the difficulties we face. The PTI founder believes that if the government shows seriousness in negotiations, the talks can progress.”

Aleema lamented that the government is yet to make any demands or respond to the PTI founder's conditions. She noted: “The negotiating committee will meet Imran Khan, convey its findings to him, and the process can then move forward. However, the government is not allowing the PTI founder to hold meetings, which is hampering progress.”
