Greenland claims Donald Trump Jr. on 'private visit' after father suggests U.S. buy territory in Denmark

President-elect Donald Trump's son Donald Jr. reportedly arrived in Greenland on Tuesday, weeks after his father expressed a desire for the United States to take control of the autonomous Danish territory. The visit, confirmed by a Greenland official to CBS News, also comes a day after Mr. Trump suggested that people in the vast region were “MAGA” in a social media post.

“The visit of Donald Trump Jr. is a private visit and it is respected by Naalakkersuisut, the government of Greenland. Therefore, there will be no reactions to the visit either,” said Mininnguaq Kleist, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greenland. , told CBS News. “Our country is open for tours and visitors are welcome to our beautiful country.”

Reuters, citing a source familiar with the trip, said Trump Jr. planned to film content for a podcast and would only come for one day. The news agency said Trump Jr. arrived in Nuuk, Greenland's capital, on Tuesday aboard his father's “Trump Force One” plane.

President-elect Trump had expressed interest in purchasing Greenland during his first term, although the idea was quickly rejected by Danish authorities.
