Jokowi is not surprised that Shin Tae-yong is fired, names his target and gets leaks

BANJARNEGARA, investor.id – Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was not surprised that the Indonesian national team (Timnas) coach Shin Tae-yong was fired. He had mentioned that Indonesia's goal was to qualify for the World Cup and admitted to leaks regarding Shin's replacement.

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia responded to the dismissal of Shin Tae-yong by the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI). He considered that this decision fell entirely within the authority of the PSSI as the national football body.

“Yes, ask Erick Thohir, ask the chairman of PSSI. All the decisions are there,” he said during a visit to Kasilib Village, Banjarnegara, Central Java on Monday (6/1/2025) .

However, regarding the leak he received regarding the replacement of the national team coach, he remains silent. “Yes, I joined PSSI and I prepared myself, I see I prepared myself. (Replacement leaks) I know, but No I have to tell you,” Jokowi said with a laugh when met at his home, Sumber Village, Solo, Tuesday (07/01/2025).

Jokowi believes that the PSSI's decision was not made suddenly. He believes that PSSI carried out an evaluation and considered various aspects before deciding to dismiss Shin Tae-yong from the position of coach of the Indonesian national team.

“Of course, I'm sure there are considerations, evaluations, corrections following coach Shin Tae-yong's long journey to lead our national team,” he added.

Regarding the future of Indonesian football, Jokowi stressed the importance of focusing on the big goal of qualifying for the World Cup. He said this dream was the shared hope of all Indonesians.
