Jokowi already has a replacement name for STY, wait for PSSI's official announcement

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), admitted that he already knows the candidate for the new coach of the Indonesian national team who will replace Shin Tae-yong (STY). However, Jokowi was reluctant to reveal the name to the public.
“Yes, I joined PSSI, I prepared myself, I see that I prepared myself. (Replacement leak) I know, but I don't need to tell you,” Jokowi said, as reported by detikJatengTuesday (07/01/2025).
When asked if the name of the new coach was announced by PSSI General President Erick Thohir, Jokowi kept it secret. He said PSSI would announce the name in the near future.

“Later, everyone will know. In a day, in two days, it will be officially announced by the PSSI,” he said.
Not surprised by STY's dismissal
Jokowi said he was not surprised by the news of Shin Tae-yong's dismissal as coach of the Indonesian national team. According to him, this decision was the subject of careful consideration by the PSSI.
“The first is that coach Shin Tae-yong has been there for four years, and then there was a decision from PSSI, which I think was carefully considered, maybe it was evaluated every year, the most important thing is that the next coach is better than coach Shin,” he explained.
Jokowi also said that he had a close relationship with Shin Tae-yong. He praised the South Korean coach as an open and pleasant person.
“I am close to coach Shin. I think his personality is open and easy to interact with,” Jokowi said.
As for whether he was disappointed with the dismissal, Jokowi only emphasized that the decision was in the hands of PSSI.
“It's PSSI's decision, happy or not, I'm happy with coach Shin. If asked if he's happy or not, I'm happy, hehehe,” he said with a laugh.
Report of detikSportPSSI officially dismissed Shin Tae-yong as coach of the Indonesian national team on Monday (6/1/2025). PSSI General President Erick Thohir said the decision was part of the organization's evaluation.
“We see the need for a leader who can better implement the strategy agreed by the players, better communication and better implementation of the program for the Indonesian national team,” Erick said.
Erick also said that the administrative procedure related to STY's dismissal has been completed.
“Mr. Sumardji met with coach Shin Tae-yong this morning and coach Shin received his correspondence. Later, there will be a next process regarding our relationship which is over,” he explained.
