Accountability court staff on Monday informed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legal team and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor that the verdict in the ₹190 million case against the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi would now be surrendered. announced on January 13.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the Islamabad Accountability Court had set January 6 as the date for announcing the verdict. A PTI lawyer had said on Sunday that the court staff did not bother to inform them whether the verdict would be announced or not.

On December 18, the Accounts Tribunal I judge reserved his order in the case while announcing that the decision would be revealed on December 23. However, on December 23, the court postponed the announcement of the verdict until January 6.

The delay in announcing the verdict was criticized by Imran Khan. His sister told reporters outside Adiala prison that the PTI founder had criticized the repeated postponement of the verdict, calling it a government pressure tactic and an attempt to keep “a sword hanging around his neck.”

Aleema Khan said Imran wanted the verdict to be delivered so that the world could understand the true nature of the case, adding that the PTI founder was committed to fighting the charges through legal means.

Later, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas expressed surprise over the sudden postponement of the verdict by the accountability court. He lamented that the government was exploiting the judiciary to deliberately delay the decision, thus unjustly prolonging the detention of the PTI founder, although there was no valid reason for his imprisonment.

Waqas said that like the Iddat case, the Al-Qadir case lacked merit and substance, adding that if the details of this case were revealed, it would not only embarrass the Pakistani justice system as a whole, but also undermine its credibility.

His views were endorsed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, saying that the PTI founder did not gain any personal benefit. “Witnesses told the court that there was no direct involvement of the PTI founder. We are optimistic about his and Bibi's acquittal,” he added.
