In a year and a half, Imran Khan spends his first meeting day alone in prison

Despite it being a scheduled meeting day, no party chief, family member, lawyer or negotiating committee member visited the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder on Thursday , Imran Khan, in Adiala jail.

It was the first time in a year and a half that the former prime minister spent an entire meeting day in isolation.

Tuesday and Thursday are designated meeting days in the prison manual, providing a regular opportunity for interactions. However, sources confirmed that no visitors had contacted prison authorities or submitted a list of names required for entry.

After the meeting ended, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry revealed that he had contacted prison officials on Wednesday on the instructions of negotiating committee head Omer Ayub. “Despite a whole day of waiting, no response was received and the committee meeting could not take place,” Faisal said.

However, the prison authorities claimed that no PTI leader had contacted the prison administration for any meeting in the last two days. They clarified that the visits are taking place according to the prescribed schedule.

“For two days, no request or list of visitors was submitted, and no one came to meet the founder of the PTI,” noted a prison official, adding that another meeting will take place tomorrow during the he hearing of the Toshakhana 2 case. Prison sources say the PTI leadership is sending names of visitors to prison authorities, but none have been submitted since Wednesday morning.

“The meeting of the negotiating committee is not the responsibility of the prison authorities,” the sources clarified.

In the past, PTI leaders and lawyers frequently arrived at the prison, even without prior authorization. However, this time no party representative made any effort to reach Adiala jail.

Meanwhile, sources said another opportunity for a meeting may arise tomorrow during the PTI founder's court appearance in the Tosha Khana II case. For now, the day ended with the PTI founder remaining alone and isolated.
