Imran Khan warns government to take matter to international level

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has warned against taking his case internationally after describing no legal advantage from local courts.

Imran Khan said there were no more options for his party and he would take his legal cases to the international level, Aleem, his sister, said after a meeting in Adiala jail on Friday.

The PTI founder has been behind bars for over a year. Khan was arrested in a corruption case in May 2023. Later, he was named in several corruption-related cases on May 9 and unrest. But he denied all accusations.

In July 2024, there was a strong chance that he would be released when a court acquitted him and his wife Bushra Bibi in the illegal marriage case. But hopes were dashed when the national anti-corruption body arrested them in connection with a state gifts case hours after the court ruling.

Last year, a UN panel of experts ruled that Khan's detention had no legal basis and appeared to have been aimed at preventing him from running for political office.
