Never lived in a comfort zone: PM Modi in a podcast

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he has never lived in a comfort zone and his ability to take risks is yet to be fully utilized. In a freewheeling chat with Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, the Prime Minister said that people do not succeed in life when they get used to their comfort zone.

“It's my luck not to have spent my life in a comfort zone, to have never been there… since I was out of my comfort zone, I knew what I had to do. I “I'm probably not fit for comfort…,” he said in his podcast debut. “The kind of life I have lived, even the little things give me satisfaction,” he added.

Modi also said that people fail in life when they get used to their comfort zone. “Even if a large industrialist does not take risks and does not leave his comfort zone, progress will stop there and he will have to get out of it. Anyone who wants to progress in any field must not get used to the comfort zone, the risk-taking mentality is a driving force,” he said.

Asked whether his ability to take risks has increased over time, the prime minister said his ability to take risks has not yet been fully utilized. “…my risk-taking capacity is several times greater…there is a reason behind it because I don't care about myself and someone who doesn't think about himself has a capacity for infinite risk-taking, my case is like that only,” he said.

Modi also said he was ready to abandon old ideas and embrace new ones, provided they fit with his core ideology of “nation first”. Modi said he sees his success in how he prepares a team that can handle things skillfully, saying there are many young politicians with potential. He declined to name any, saying it would be an injustice to many others.

Asked by Kamath if he had planned for the time beyond him, training those he trusts, not for today but 20-30 years from now, Modi replied: “I can see people with a lot of potential. When I was in Gujarat, I would say I want to go there after preparing (the team) for the next 20 years. My success lies in how I prepare my team. will know how to manage things skill.”

He said politics needs the continued entry of good people who put mission before ambition and summarized his ideology as “nation first”. When asked if he saw such potential in a young politician, he said there were many. “They work hard, they work with a mission. If I say one name it will be an injustice to many others. There are many names and faces in front of me. I know the details of many people but it is my responsibility to know them and not do injustice to others,” he added.

Modi said it was his life's mantra that he might make mistakes, but he would not do anything wrong with bad intentions.

“When I became the chief minister (of Gujarat), I said that I will spare no effort to work hard. I will not do anything for myself. And, thirdly, I am human and I can make mistakes .But I will not do anything wrong. I have made it a mantra of my life, I must have made mistakes, I am also a human, not a god,” the Prime Minister added.

Noting that one-third of the seats of MPs and Lok Sabha members will be reserved for women in the near future, he said women are already present in local bodies due to 50 per cent reservation for them in many states and asked them to work to become as capable. as they can be to prepare for assemblies and Parliament. The prime minister has described himself as not a typical politician and his time is mainly spent on governance.

“I have to make political speeches during elections. It's my constraint. I don't like it but I have to do it. All my time is devoted to governance outside elections. And when I was not in power, my time was entirely devoted to governance focused on the organization…,” he said.

During his third term, he said he felt more emboldened and his dreams broadened. During the first two terms, he judged his work by the progress he had made since his beginnings. “Now my thoughts are in the context of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he added.

Modi said his idea of a “minimum and maximum government” had been misinterpreted by some people who thought it meant fewer ministers or government employees. It was never his idea, he said, pointing out that he had created separate ministries, such as skills development and fisheries.

It's about reducing lengthy official procedures, he said, citing the end of more than 40,000 compliances and the repeal of more than 1,500 laws as steps in that direction.

In the podcast which touched on different phases of his life, Modi described himself as an ordinary student who studied just to pass the exam but participated in different activities and was always curious.

“My struggles were the university that taught me,” he said, pointing out that his father did not allow him to apply for admission to a Sainik school due to lack of money. However, he was never disappointed, he added.

The prime minister also said social media has strengthened democracy by paving the way for verification of information that was previously available from a handful of sources with few alternatives.

He said earlier that there were very few people reporting on the events and their version was considered the truth. “You were trapped as there was no facility to seek verification. But today you have an alternative to verify information on different platforms. Everything is available on your mobile phone,” Modi said.

“If you don't pay attention, you can find out the truth. This is why social media can strengthen democracy,” he said.

The Prime Minister said young people tend to check information on social media before believing the truth. Modi also expressed surprise at the interest shown by young people in developments in the space sector.

“The success of Chandrayaan has created a new enthusiasm among today's youth. I meet many children who know about Gaganyaan's schedule. You see, the power of social media. They follow Gaganyaan closely,” he said. -he declared. Modi said the students know the details of the Gaganyaan mission astronauts and where they are undergoing training.

“Children of 8th and 9th grade know all this. This means that social media, in a way, can be seen as having great power for the new generation,” Modi said.
