Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed viral memes about himself and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni during his podcast debut on the series “People by WTF”, hosted by Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha. The light-hearted conversation touched on various aspects of the Prime Minister's life, including his approach to food and his thoughts on his early days in public life.
Kamath asked the Prime Minister about 'Melodi memes' that have gained traction online over the last two years. “Mr Prime Minister, since we are talking about other countries, if I can digress a little, I have to say that my favorite food is pizza, which comes from Italy. It is often said that we know a lot about Italy. Would you like to share anything about this? Haven't you seen these memes? he asked.
Prime Minister Modi replied: “This is what keeps happening (this is an ongoing thing).”
He added that he doesn't focus on memes or online discussions. “I am not a foodie, no matter what is served in any country. I eat with pleasure,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal preferences, Prime Minister Modi said he had difficulty deciding what to order when presented with a menu. “If someone gives me a menu, I won't be able to decide what to eat. I’m not a foodie,” he said.
The Prime Minister also recounted his early days in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where he often relied on the late Arun Jaitley to navigate restaurant menus.
“I don’t know if the dish mentioned on the menu and the food in front of me are the same thing. I have no knowledge. I'm ignorant because I didn't develop this tendency. So I don’t understand much about it, so I always asked Arun ji to order food for me, it just had to be vegetarian,” he said.
During the two-hour podcast, Prime Minister Modi shared several anecdotes, touching on his childhood, education, entry into politics, challenges, stress management and key policy decisions.
