Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking bail ahead of his arrest in eight cases involving the May 9 violence.

In his plea, Khan, 72, argued that he was detained by the NAB in Islamabad at the time of the incidents and was falsely implicated in political victimization. He further stated that he has been facing legal proceedings related to these cases for two years.

Khan called the prosecution against him an act of “political vengeance.”

Khan told the court that he had been subjected to “political victimization” and faced several “fabricated” cases for two years and asked the court to approve his release on bail after his arrest .

The petition urges the court to grant bail and order his release in all eight cases, Pakistan Today reported.

Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore had rejected his requests for bail in these cases, including the Jinnah House attack.

The ATC rejected the bail applications, contrary to the facts, Khan argued.

Khan has reportedly been named in 12 cases related to the events of May 9, although he has already been granted bail in four of them.

Khan has been incarcerated at Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi since mid-2023 in several cases. The PTI has been at odds with the federal government since the February 2024 legislative elections.
