PM Modi to inaugurate Z-Morh tunnel tomorrow
The tunnel will facilitate all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Sonamarg and Leh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on January 13 to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. He will also address the assembly on this occasion.
The Z-Morh tunnel, approximately 12 km long, was constructed at a cost of over Rs 2,700 million. It includes the main tunnel, an exit tunnel and access roads.
Situated at an altitude of over 8,650 feet above sea level, the Z-Morh Tunnel will facilitate all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg en route to Leh, bypassing landslide-prone roads and to avalanches. It will also ensure safe and uninterrupted access to the strategically critical Ladakh region and help promote tourism throughout the year.
Along with the Zojila Tunnel, which is to be completed by 2028, the Sonamarg Tunnel will reduce the length of the route from 49 km to 43 km and increase the speed of vehicles from 30 km/h to 70 km/h, thereby ensuring seamless connectivity to NH-1. between the Srinagar valley and Ladakh. Improved connectivity will boost defense logistics, boost economic growth and socio-cultural integration in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will also meet construction workers, who worked under the harshest conditions, to recognize their contribution to this historic engineering feat.
