Carrie Johnson treated at John Radcliffe for flu and pneumonia
Carrie Johnson has thanked health workers in Oxfordshire after revealing she was hospitalized for almost a week with flu and pneumonia.
Sharing photos from her hospital bed at John Radcliffe Hospital, the wife of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson said she spent the first week of the year receiving treatment and she was “still not recovered”.
She said she had a “nasty” chest infection and was “horribly, horribly ill” for 18 days before being admitted to hospital.

In an Instagram post, the media consultant said: “It got out of control and I was having trouble breathing properly.
“The hospital confirmed that I had the flu and pneumonia.
“I was there almost a week and I'm still not recovered. It could be weeks before I feel like myself again.”
She added that the reason for the public social media post, shared today (January 11), was mainly to thank NHS doctors and nurses: “I say this a lot, but they took care of me and my family when we needed it most and I will never be extremely grateful.
“They are the best of us.”

She particularly thanked John Radcliffe's staff and explained how a nurse serenaded the politician's wife by his bedside during a difficult time, which she described as an “incredible kindness”.

“I really, really wish I had,” she said. “It totally escaped me this year. No guarantees, but I most likely wouldn't have spent the last three weeks horribly, horribly sick if I had it.”
