Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan on Thursday called for a speedy verdict in the Al-Qadir Trust case, saying the credibility of the justice system was at stake, Express News reported.

Speaking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court, she questioned the delay in announcing a decision. “The judge heard the case at length. Now it's up to him to give the verdict. Why doesn't he do it?” she asked.

Aleema Khan has dismissed speculation that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party was seeking support from US President-elect Donald Trump. “Has PTI pinned hopes on Trump? Why do you keep asking such questions? Is Imran Khan in jail for 18 months waiting for him?” she said.

She insisted that her brother was in prison to prove his innocence. “Give him credit for that,” she added.

Terming the Al-Qadir Trust case as “stupid”, Aleema Khan said the PTI was simply enduring court appearances. She alleged that journalists who fairly cover prison conditions do not have access to Khan.

She reiterated her demand for an immediate decision. “We pray that the verdict will be announced tomorrow,” she said, adding that Imran Khan had full faith in the judiciary. “It's no longer his test; it's now the test of the judiciary. Some will pass, some will fail.”

Aleema Khan suggested the verdict was predetermined and criticized delays in its announcement. “If the acquittal was going to happen, it would have happened on day one,” she said. “If a judge makes a biased or wrong decision, the media will hold him or her accountable.”

She claimed that Imra Khan had sent a message saying that the verdict was initially expected on December 23, then January 6, and now the decision was allegedly leaked before its official announcement. She accused authorities of delaying the decision to pressure Imran Khan into a deal.

She said Imran Khan had called for “neutral umpires” to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, referring to his past role in introducing neutral umpires to cricket. “Whoever is guilty, whether PTI member or not, must be punished,” she said.

She also accused authorities of arresting people without evidence. “We come across cases, but no investigator has ever told us what the evidence is,” she said.

Aleema Khan insisted that the PTI was not negotiating a deal but had formed a committee to hold a dialogue with the government. “We have never closed the doors of dialogue, but Khan presented two demands,” she said without elaborating.

Commenting on a reported meeting between PTI leaders, lawyers Gohar Ali Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur, with Army Chief General Asim Munir, she said: “If such a meeting took place, it is a development Welcome.

She also claimed that donors continued to support PTI-linked institutions such as Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Namal University, despite legal challenges.

The Al-Qadir Trust case concerns allegations that Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, received financial benefits in exchange for providing legal cover to a real estate tycoon. Khan denies any wrongdoing and says the accusations are politically motivated.
