A new portrait of Donald Trump has been released ahead of his inauguration – with his expression and the angle of his head resembling those he gave in a 2023 police photo.

In the last photo, the US president-elect can be seen looking seriously at the camera, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. He wears an American flag pin.

Mr. Trump's pose resembles the famous image of him taken by Georgian authorities in August 2023, after he was accused of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

It was the first time that a former American president had his photo taken. It is unclear whether the resemblance between the new portrait of Mr. Trump and the infamous photo was intentional.

A new portrait of future Vice President JD Vance was also revealed, with the former Marine standing with his arms crossed and smiling into the camera.

Both men will be sworn in on Monday and as preparations for the ceremony wrap up, both men posed for photos to mark the occasion.

The new images were sent to media outlets with the email subject line “Official Portraits Released – And They Get Hard” accompanied by a fire emoji.

Mr Trump and Mr Vance will be sworn in as president and vice president respectively at the inauguration in Washington DC on Monday.
