Here's who will attend the inauguration
President-elect Donald Trump's second inauguration will bring together some of America's most influential billionaires and politicians, as well as foreign leaders and celebrities who have embraced the new president.
Read below about some of the notable guests who will be in attendance.
Politicians
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with their respective wives, first lady Jill Biden and second gentleman Doug Emhoff, are set to revive the tradition of defeated presidential candidates sharing the inauguration stage with the election winners. Trump notably chose to skip Biden's inauguration in January 2021, leaving for Florida after trying, in vain, to reverse his electoral defeat.
Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are also expected to attend the exercise, although all three will forgo the traditional post-inauguration luncheon. Among their spouses, only former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush will be present; Michelle Obama said she would not attend.
Several Republican members of Congress will also be in attendance, but a significant number of congressional Democrats plan not to swear in Trump, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Technical executives
The three richest people in the world, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, will attend Trump's inauguration and will take pride of place during the ceremony. The tech moguls will sit together on the dais alongside former presidents, the Trump family and Cabinet nominees.
It's no surprise that Musk, the owner of Musk remained at Trump's side after campaigning with him and was tapped by Trump to co-lead a new Department of Government Effectiveness.
Bezos, the Amazon founder who also owns the Washington Post, decided to withhold newspaper support for Harris over Trump in the presidential race. Meanwhile, Meta CEO Zuckerberg has apparently tried to curry favor with Trump in recent months, overhauling his lobbying staff and content moderation policies by replacing third-party fact-checking with community ratings written by users. Zuckerberg also reportedly co-hosted a black-tie reception with Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson on Monday to celebrate Trump's inauguration.
Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok, also plans to attend Trump's inauguration and has reportedly been invited to sit on the same dais as other tech executives. Trump embraced TikTok as he faces a U.S. ban on Jan. 19, although during his first term he tried to block the app in the U.S. and force its sale to a company American.
Other Big Tech executives reportedly in attendance are Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Tim Cook, Apple CEO; and Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber.
Altman, Cook and Khosrowshahi along with the companies Meta, Amazon, Google and Uber recently contributed at least $1 million to Trump's inaugural fund. Tech companies and their executives have a significant stake in Trump's second term because of potential changes in tax policy, trade policy and antitrust enforcement.
Biden, in his farewell address to the nation, warned that American democracy was sliding toward an oligarchy of tech billionaires.
Foreign leaders
While foreign diplomats, such as ambassadors, typically attend U.S. presidential inaugurations, no foreign heads of state have made an official visit for the occasion, according to the Associated Press. But that is about to change for Trump.
Trump's inauguration guest list already includes right-wing populists like Argentine President Javier Milei, whose economic reforms have drawn praise from the U.S. president-elect, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a vocal Trump ally who should attend if their schedule permits. , according to Politico.
Other ideological comrades from around the world planning to attend Trump's inauguration include Belgian Vlaams Belang party chairman Tom Van Grieken, Rica Zemmour of the French nationalist Reconquête party, Tino Chrupalla of the Alternative for Germany party ( AfD), the president of the Spanish party Vox, Santiago. Abascal and Nigel Farage, leader of the populist Reform UK party.
Trump also invited Chinese President Xi Jinping, which Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said is a sign of the president-elect's desire to have an open dialogue with all foreign nations around the world, whether they be adversaries, competitors or allies. . In Xi's place, China is sending Vice President Han Zheng, and the Foreign Ministry has expressed readiness to work with the new US government.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa will also be present at the inauguration, according to his office, alongside Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.
Internet Personalities and Celebrities
Trump's inauguration is also expected to attract high-profile celebrities and internet personalities. According to TMZ, the list includes Jake and Logan Paul, Theo Von, Bryce Hall and the Nelk Boys. Trump interviewed Von and the Nelk Boys during his campaign, appearing on their male-targeted podcasts in a deliberate attempt to break through to young men and continue the so-called bro vote.
According to TMZ, other celebrities expected to attend include Caitlyn Jenner, Amber Rose, Dana White and Megyn Kelly. Carrie Underwood will play America The Beautiful.
