An accountability court on Friday convicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in a corruption case, sentencing Khan to 14 years and his wife to seven years in prison.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced the verdict – previously delayed three times – in a makeshift courtroom at Adiala Prison in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.

Except Imran and Bushra Bibi, all other accused were missing and were later declared absconders.

The court also imposed a fine of one million rupees on the PTI founder and 0.5 million rupees on Bushra Bibi. If he failed to submit the fine, the PTI founder would face another six months while Bushra Bibi would face three months of imprisonment.

He said the assets of the fictitious trust “the Al-Qadir University Project Trust” are forfeited to the federal government within the meaning of section 10 (a) of the NAB Ordinance 1999.

The judgment said: “The testimony of prosecution witnesses cannot be discredited by the defense. The prosecution's case is mainly based on the documentary evidence, which is patiently proven.
