PM Modi distributes 65 Lakh Swamitva property cards

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed around 65 lakh Svamitva property cards and said it would strengthen economic activities and help in poverty alleviation.
He also interacted with some beneficiaries through video conferencing and said the program would help people get loans and benefits from government schemes.
These property cards are distributed to beneficiaries in over 50,000 villages in 10 states: Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and two Union Territories off the coast. Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
“Around 2.24 million beneficiaries in villages will now have Svamitva property cards after the distribution of 65 lakh cards today,” the Prime Minister said.

“Property rights are a major challenge across the world. Years ago, the United Nations conducted a study that found that people lacked legal documentation for property rights in several countries. The UN has declared that property rights are important for poverty reduction. he said.
The Prime Minister said a leading economist was of the opinion that property in villages is “dead capital” because people cannot do anything with it and it cannot help increase their income.
“India has also been affected by this challenge. People in villages own assets worth millions of dollars, but they did not have papers to acquire them. There have been disputes, property were seized and even banks did not provide loans for it,” he said.
“Previous governments should have taken action to address this problem, but nothing was done,” he said.
Modi said Dalits, backward classes and tribals were worst affected by this situation.
“After obtaining legal property rights, thousands of people took out a loan. They used this money to start their business. Many of them are farmers, for whom this property card is a guarantee of financial security ” he said.
He also said that Svamitva and Bhu-Adhaar will become the basis of development of villages.
Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan', Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj SP Singh Baghel and Secretary Panchayati Raj Ministry Vivek Bharadwaj were also present at the event.
Several Chief Ministers, Union Ministers and State Ministers participated virtually.
Events are also being organized in over 230 districts for physical distribution of property cards. It is expected that around 13 Union ministers will join physically from designated locations across the country to supervise the regional property card distribution ceremonies.
