Planned meeting of Prabowo and Megawati, Jokowi: the decision is up to the president
Surakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesia's 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also made comments on the planned meeting between the General Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi believes that the decision regarding the meeting between the two national figures lies with President Prabowo.
“Yes, this decision belongs to President Prabowo Subianto,” Jokowi said briefly at his residence in Solo, Central Java, Saturday (18/1/2025).
When asked again if the meeting would produce positive results, Jokowi agreed.
“Yes, if we meet, it doesn't matter. Like I said before,” he said.
Plans for a meeting between Megawati and Prabowo resurfaced after the PDIP's 52nd anniversary commemoration on January 10, 2025. There were also rumors that the two political figures would meet before Prabowo's inauguration as president and until the regional elections in 2024, but this plan has not yet been implemented.
Previously, PDIP DPP Chairman Said Abdullah revealed that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati is expected to take place before the PDIP congress in April 2025. Indeed, Prabowo was expected to be invited as a guest of honor to the event. Said also hopes that this meeting can take place at least before the PDIP congress.
Meanwhile, Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani indicated that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati could take place in January 2025. Muzani hopes that the meeting will have a positive impact on Indonesia's political stability.
“This meeting (of Prabowo and Megawati) will bring a better political atmosphere and contribute to smooth development and investment,” Muzani said.
