Imran Khan's latest X-rated message poses risk to government dialogue and behind-the-scenes discussions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's latest post on X (formerly Twitter), targeting the military high command, has once again endangered both formal dialogue and backdoor talks between the former ruling party and the government and the establishment.

The former prime minister is invincible even though he was advised even after the army chief's last meeting with PTI leaders not to target the army and its command to contribute to the success of the talks .

But Khan again posted an aggressive message on his social media account. This [Imran Khans social media statements] is the biggest obstacle to moving forward, lamented a senior PTI leader while speaking to this correspondent on condition of not being named.

A source close to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur revealed that the CM had asked Khan to avoid attacking the army and its command in view of the recent breakthrough in the indirect dialogue process, during of their last meeting at Adiala prison.

The source said that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar had also made a similar request to Khan, but again a hard-hitting statement was released on the social media account of the jailed PTI leaders.

Khan was also advised by his leaders to prevent the PTI's foreign wing from carrying out any anti-army campaign.

Similar requests were made to Khan even before, but all these requests fell on deaf ears.

Gandapur and Gohar had recently met Army Chief General Asim Munir in Peshawar. Khan himself confirmed this development while speaking to journalists and called it an encouraging development.

Most PTI leaders were also excited by this development, hoping that behind-the-scenes negotiations with the establishment would continue and bring some relief to the PTI.

But Khans' tweet on his X account on Friday disappointed many within the PTI. There were even discussions among some leaders on how to prevent Khan's social media account from spoiling what the PTI has achieved after so long.

While the PTI was expecting follow-up meetings after the recent breakthrough, it is now unsure how the establishment would react after Khan's latest tweet.

On Friday, Khan's message following his conviction in a 190 million case was posted on his X account. His message urged the nation to read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report. The history of 1971 is repeating itself in Pakistan. Yahya Khan destroyed the country and today the dictator is doing the same to protect his dictatorship and his personal gains, thus pushing the country to the brink of destruction.

The second-tier leaders of the PTI realize that if Khan continues to adopt an aggressive attitude towards the establishment, it will harm the dialogue process, both public and background.

A previous aggressive tweet from Khan had already shaken up the dialogue process once. This was not expected after the PTI leaders' meeting with the army chief, but Khan did it again.

Due to the aggressive use of Khan's social media account in the past, PTI leaders urged him to bring back control of Khan's official social media accounts as well as PTI in Pakistan from abroad to s ensure that they are not used to fuel the fire.

According to a PTI leader, those who control these accounts from abroad are even exaggerating Khan's views and, therefore, creating more problems for the party and its leadership. He, however, admitted that Khan had never snubbed such material.
