Bail before arrest of Raja, Imran's sisters extended – Journal

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday extended the bail of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf general secretary Salman Akram Raja and two sisters of PTI founding president Imran Khan, who was jailed in several cases of May 9 riots and other violence.

Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan appeared in court after their bail period expired, but Mr Raja did not attend the hearing.

His lawyer requested a one-time exemption from personal appearance, informing the court that Mr. Raja was unable to personally attend the hearing due to illness.

ATC-III judge Arshad Javed accepted the request and extended the pre-arrest bail of the PTI leader in two cases of October 5 protests.

A lawyer for Imran Khan's sisters argued that the two petitioners were in Rawalpindi jail in connection with another case that took place on October 5.

The judge expressed displeasure when a prosecutor asked for additional time to present his arguments.

The judge observed: What fault lies with the accused if he has to appear in court repeatedly?

The judge argued that the next hearing would put an end to the case, regardless of the availability of the charge.

The judge extended bail for both sisters in the cases from Oct. 5 until Feb. 12.

The judge also extended their bail in the Jinnah House attack case until February 15.
