US envoy meets Indian PM Modi, says India-US partnership will continue to grow

NEW DELHI – Outgoing US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Sunday summoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his family for a final meeting and later said the partnership between the two countries had reached new heights thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Modi and President Joe Biden.
His meeting with Prime Minister Modi took place a day before the inauguration of Mr. Donald Trump as the 47th President of the Americas. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at Mr Trump's inauguration.
In a social media post on X, Mr. Garcetti said: I had a great final visit with Prime Minister Modi with my family. It is clear that he and President Biden have taken our compelling and consequential U.S.-India partnership to new heights: record visas, record trade, record defense collaboration, record space cooperation , student record, investment record and much more.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India for their warm hospitality and highlighted that the US-India partnership has become indispensable and will continue to strengthen in the years to come.
What was considered unthinkable a generation ago will seem indispensable in a generation today, thanks to the work of these leaders and the people of our nations. Thank you Mr Prime Minister and thank you to all Indians. It was a daily joy to help co-write this chapter with you, he added.
Mr. Garcetti's last official engagement in India took place on Friday at the inauguration ceremony of the American consulate office in Bangalore, accompanied by Mr. Jaishankar.

The US ambassador also highlighted the rich history of US-India relations, dating back to 1776, when the US opened its second consulate in Calcutta, India. He noted that the recent inauguration of the US consulate in Bangalore marks an expansion of the US presence in India, rather than a new beginning. Mr. Jaishankar announced on the occasion that India would open its consulate in Los Angeles.
