Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said continuing friendship with US President Donald Trump was important for Trkiye.
He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Ankara. Caliber.Az report, quoting Turkish media.
He noted that Ankara supports the Trump administration's initiatives to end the war between Russia and Ukraine: “In our meetings with Mr. Trump, we will put these issues on the table and take our measures accordingly. I hope Mr. Trump's second term will be beneficial. for all humanity, and I thank you too.”
Erdogan added that Trkiye was doing his best to end the war in Ukraine.
“Since he [Trump] If we emphatically said: “I will end the Russian-Ukrainian war,” we, as Trkiye, will do everything necessary in this regard, because we are not in favor of wars in the world. As Trkiye, we stand for peace. With this peace, we believe that solidarity between the countries of the world will continue. Everything lies in peace, not war. The war does not lead to any meaningful outcome. We must resolve this issue as quickly as possible,” Erdogan said after the talks.
It is important to emphasize that Trkiye is actively continuing its peace initiatives aimed at mediating the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. On January 20, 2025, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan stressed the urgency of a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine. He expressed Trkiye's commitment to this goal and announced his intention to discuss the issue with the new US President Donald Trump.
President Erdoan reiterated that ending the war in Ukraine remains a priority for Trkiye in 2025. In his New Year's message, he said: “Ending the war between Russia and Ukraine is among our priorities for 2025”.
