Was forced to testify against Imran in £190m case, claims Zulfi Bukhari – Pakistan

SAYED Zulfiqar Bukhari, a close aide of Imran Khan, has claimed he was under immense pressure to testify against the former prime minister in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

Speaking to The Independent, Zulfi Bukhari claimed that the authorities offered him lucrative offers, but he refused.

Anyone whose name is involved in this case has been offered all kinds of offers (to testify) against Imran Khan. Fortunately, none of them accepted the offer, neither the businessman nor myself, said Mr. Bukhari, who is currently international media advisor to the PTI founder and has been based in London since that he fled Pakistan after a crackdown.

The Al-Qadir Trust case centers on the alleged misuse of $190 million repatriated from the United Kingdom via the National Crime Agency, for the benefit of real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were convicted last week and sentenced to 14 and seven years respectively.

Mr. Bukhari described the pressures he faced, saying: “From the kidnapping of my family members, the destruction of homes and businesses, the blocking of bank accounts and the deprivation of all my land, no tactics no pressure was left. It was a two-pronged attack, a carrot and a stick.

He argued that the case was politically motivated and lacked evidence of financial gain. The 190m sits before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. This money actually earns interest. The whole story is absolutely absurd, he said.

Imran Khan, speaking from Adiala Prison, confirmed that Bukhari had been offered offers to testify, but had refused. This led to the destruction of his business and the displacement of family members, Mr Khan was quoted as saying by the publication.

Bukhari also told The Independent that he was added as a defendant in the case after refusing to appear in court, citing fears of arrest.
