Trkiye reaffirms commitment to world peace

Trkiye reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to global peace and stability to find peaceful solutions to ongoing conflicts, said a statement issued after the first meeting of the National Security Council (MGK) of the year on Wednesday.

The statement, issued after a three-and-a-half-hour meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, stressed that Ankara will particularly strengthen its efforts to resolve conflicts in the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans.

Ankara also reiterated its full support for the new Syrian administration to guarantee the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity of the country, while guaranteeing the fundamental rights and freedoms of all ethnic and religious groups, and contributing to the reconstruction and stability of Syria.

The national security policy document, which is regularly updated every five years or promptly if necessary, was revised based on an assessment of current and potential developments in Trkiye, the region and the world, and was deemed appropriate by the board,” the statement said.

Since the beginning of the year, the Office of the Secretary-General of the National Security Council has been in contact with relevant ministries and institutions to contribute to the document.

At the beginning of December, a secret meeting chaired by Vice President Cevdet Ylmaz, with the highest security measures, discussed in detail the planned changes to the “Red Book”.

The changes were presented at the meeting.

The document, once referred to as a secret constitution due to its influence on state affairs, primarily serves as a guideline for the country's future security policies or amendments to existing policies.

It covers threats to the existence of the Trkiyes and policies to deal with them, namely anti-terrorism measures and measures against domestic and foreign threats.

The Red Book is occasionally updated as threats evolve, although discussions about this are rarely made public. In September 2019, authorities announced that the latest version of the document had been discussed and approved at a meeting of the MGK.

Trkiye reiterated that the PKK terrorist group and its extensions would not be allowed to exploit the current or potential situation in Syria and stressed that all terrorist groups that pose a threat to countries in the region would be eliminated under all circumstances.

Trkiye also reaffirmed its full support for the new Syrian administration to guarantee the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity of the country, while guaranteeing the fundamental rights and freedoms of all ethnic and religious groups, and contributing to the reconstruction and stability of Syria.

Regarding the Gaza ceasefire, the MGK statement said Trkiye supports a permanent ceasefire and hopes it will serve as the basis for a two-state solution in Palestine.

The importance of ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches the people of Gaza without obstacles, without interruption and as quickly as possible was also highlighted, the statement said, adding that Israel's aggressive actions, which disregard the right international and now extend to Syrian territory, pose a problem. a major obstacle to efforts to achieve regional stability.
