Megawati's 78th birthday, no congratulations from Jokowi and Prabowo yet

JAKARTA, (ERAKINI) – PDIP General President Megawati Soekarnoputri celebrates her 78th birthday today. However, unlike previous years, Megawati did not receive congratulations from the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Jokowi or President Prabowo Subianto.

Observed from his social media pages, until this evening, Jokowi was not seen wishing Megawati a happy birthday. We know that Jokowi will no longer be part of the PDIP since December 16, 2024.

However, on the occasion of the PDIP's 52nd anniversary on January 10, Jokowi again expressed his congratulations. Jokowi conveyed these remarks through the media. “Yes, I wish the entire PDIP family a happy 52nd birthday today,” Jokowi said briefly in Solo, Central Java, Friday (10/1/2025).

Last year, even though his relationship with Megawati had begun to strain, Jokowi still wished her a happy birthday. In fact, Jokowi then sent a bouquet of flowers to Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

President Prabowo Subianto also did not wish Megawati a happy birthday. Observed on his Instagram account, until this evening there had been no congratulations from Prabowo.

Gerindra Party DPP Daily Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad admitted that he did not know whether Prabowo wished Megawati a happy birthday or not.

“Pak Prabowo is leaving today to work in India. As asked previously (about birthday wishes), I don't know what it will look like,” Dasco said at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

Celebrated simply in Batu Tulis

Megawati's birthday was celebrated today simply with her immediate family and friends at Batu Tulis Palace, Bogor. Megawati looked modest wearing casual kebaya clothes with simple designs.

Megawati's older brother Guntur Soekarnoputra and younger sister Sukmawati Soekarnoputri were present. Apart from this, Megawati's son who is also Chairman of the PDIP DPP M Prananda Prabowo with his wife Nancy Prananda and their two children, as well as Puan Maharani with his two children.

There was no special celebration as Megawati just wanted to celebrate her birthday. After the prayer, the event continued with lunch together, which began with the cutting of tumpeng. Megawati gave tumpeng pieces to Guntur Soekarnoputra, Boediono, Mahfud MD and Ganjar Pranowo.

Megawati also contributed to two of her favorite songs, namely Cinta Hampa, popularized by the music group D'lloyd, and My Way, popularized by Frans Sinatra. Sometimes Megawati inserts a joke into the verses of the songs she sings.
