Even if you can't stand the man, there's no denying that his support for American farmers is stronger than that shown by our own politicians for British farmers. He has proven to be very pro-agriculture, promising deregulation, subsidies and protectionism.
Of course, Trump has only been president for a few days, and we've already seen that reality doesn't always follow rhetoric. But he was elected on the basis of a clear message: “America first,” and this time he has the experience to carry out his policies.
The devil is in the details, but the direction forward is clear: The American people's choice of leader could well result in a cold wind blowing through our local agricultural communities.
