Imran Khan seeks meeting with government dialogue committee before January 28: Salman Akram Raja

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Salman Akram Raja on Saturday said that the founder has called his meeting with the dialogue committee before January 28.

He said the PTI had been involved in legal and constitutional battles and would also continue to fight for its political rights and would never back down from its demands.

Raja quoted the PTI founder as saying that the party would raise its voice in support of the missing persons and also continued to demand the establishment of a judicial commission.

Replying to a question, he confirmed the new chairman of the KP section of the PTI. Junaid Akbar's appointment will be notified soon, he said.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the talks were initiated in good faith but the government showed no seriousness regarding the formation of a commission responsible for investigating the events of May 9 and November 26.

“We didn’t engage in discussions just for jokes or photo ops,” he noted.

He pointed out that a case regarding a protest in the Supreme Court was pending, with clauses on terrorism added to the FIR.

He said several lawyers were involved in the case and were now appearing in court. He added that the judge had hinted that the case would be dissolved at the next hearing.

He stressed that the PTI was committed to the dialogue process despite the reservations and injustices faced by the party, including the convictions against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

According to Gohar, the PTI made two demands during the negotiations but did not receive any response from the government within the agreed period of seven days.

The terms of reference, timetable and composition of the commission were supposed to be finalized, but the government's inaction proved its lack of seriousness, Gohar said.

“Given this lack of commitment, there is no point in continuing discussions just for formalities. Therefore, Imran Khan has decided to end the negotiations,” Gohar said.

He reiterated that the PTI remained open to dialogue with all political parties and sought to move forward constructively. However, the government's attitude forced them to interrupt further negotiations.
