PTI replaces Gandapur with Junaid Akbar as chairman of Parts KP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has appointed MNA Junaid Akbar as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president, replacing outgoing provincial president Ali Amin Gandapur, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja has declared Saturday.

Talking to reporters outside Rawalpindis Adiala Jail on Saturday, Raja asserted, the change was made to reduce the burden on Ali Amin Gandapur who has a lot of responsibilities as KP chief minister and reports to numerous challenges in governance and ensuring public order.

Therefore, on his (Gandapurs) request, PTI founder Imran Khan decided that Junaid Akbar Khan will become PTI Chairman in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A day ago, Akbar was elected chairman of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) unopposed, filling a position left vacant since the general elections in February 2024.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan, Senator Shibli Faraz and others proposed the name of Junaid Akbar Khan, an NA Read press release added that he had received support of MNA, including Riaz Fatiana, Malik Aamir Dogar, Wazhiya Qamar and Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman.

The PTI general secretary continued that the parties' female leader Aliya Hamza will be given a bigger role in the party. Imran Khan wants her to have a bigger role. We will have a meeting and decide what role to give him.
