Gove tipped Sunak's resignation honors
Michael Gove has been offered a list of resignation honors from Rishi Sunaks.
Gove resigned as an MP before last years' general election and became editor of The Spectator, a right-wing magazine.
Other former Conservative Cabinet ministers expected to receive Sunak's peers are Mark Harper, the former transport secretary, Victoria Prentis, the former attorney general, and Alister Jack, the former Scottish secretary.
Stephen Massey, the former chief executive of the Conservative Party, is also expected to receive a place in the Lords, according to the Times.
Gove was an ally of Rishi Sunak during the general election campaign with him arguing he had the plan our country needed in the final days of the campaign following a series of controversies, including skipping a commemorating D-Day and introducing an unpopular National Service Manifesto promise.
The former Cabinet minister also has a close connection to current Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. He supported her in previous leadership elections and worked with her during her time in government.
Gove was due to be knighted in Boris Johnsons resignation honors list for his services to government since the Conservatives took power in 2010, but was dropped on charges it blocked Johnsons chance to become Prime Minister at the back of the 2016 Brexit referendum as it decided to stand.
Other sources close to Johnson say he had a second thought about giving Gove a knighthood after accusing him of persuading Kemi Badenoch to support Sunak in the autumn 2022 Tory leadership contest The former spokesperson for the prime ministers did not deny any story.
Former MP Sir Oliver Dowden and Sir Julian Smith, a fellow MP from Yorkshire, have already been driven for peers. As Dowden is still a sitting MP, the Conservatives are expected to call a by-election in his Hertsmere constituency, which he holds with a majority of 7,992, before accepting an invitation to the lords.
Rishi Sunak's honors list is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
