Beijing: Chinese chief Xi Jinping took a bullish tone during a speech on Monday before the lunar New Year, after recognizing “complex and severe situations” in recent months.
Xi addressed himself to the rally of senior officials of the Communist Party while China is preparing for its greatest public holiday, which takes place this year from January 28 to February 4 and will see people say goodbye to the year of the year Dragon and the Ring of the Year of the Serpent.
He leads a country that is still struggling to consolidate his economic recovery from the Pandemic of COVID-19 and assailed by a crisis in the real estate sector, chronically low consumption and high unemployment for young people.
The Chinese economy increased by five% in 2024, its slowest rate since 1990, excluding financially tumultuous years of the pandemic.

“We have again proven that with hard work and a struggle, no difficulty or obstacle can prevent the Chinese people from pursuing a better life, or … the historical process of national rejuvenation,” he said .
Experts have warned that the recovery remains unequal, and Beijing could face other winds this year if the American president Donald Trump follows wishes to go for the price of Chinese products in retaliation for allegedly unfair business practices .
They also warned that more efforts are necessary to stimulate domestic consumption as the prospects of Chinese exports become more uncertain.
By a frozen lake dotted with ice skaters in the historic Beijing center, some new -year lunar travelers have expressed its careful optimism that stimulation measures put the country on the right track of the year of the snake.
“Now, China's policies to export and trade are very open,” Zhong Haiping, a 27 -year -old merchant in the southern Guangdong, told AFP.
