What the United States ceasefire proposal means for Ukraine, Russia, Europe and Donald Trump

The United States claimed that Ukraine has accepted its proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after three years of war.

The announcement followed peace talks in Saudi Arabia, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled on March 10, and is a remarkable turn of events. The ball is now at the Court of Russia to find out if he accepts the cease-fire proposal.

Zelenskyys the recent cries match with American president Donald Trump and vice-president JD Vance in the White House, on the surface, could not have gone from the point of view of Ukrainian leaders. Trump and Vance submitted Zelenskyy to scathing attacks before the end of their meeting.

In the aftermath of the meeting, the international community joined Ukraine. The most important thing, however, was the European response.

For all the problems in the approach of Trumps, he is right to say that the European response to the invasion of Russia has left a lot to be desired from the point of view of the Ukraines. Although Europe has provided more financial aid to Ukraine than in the United States, it has largely occurred by thrusts and only after the American leadership on the issue.

France and the United Kingdom have become the largest Ukrainian donors in Europe. This is not new, because the two countries have been among the most vocal Ukraines in recent years. What Ukraine needs, however, is that this vocal support turns into action.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a program of 800 billion euros for the members of the European Union to strengthen their defense capacities shortly after Zelenskyy met with European leaders in London in early March. With this equipment, the Member States can massively intensify their support for Ukraine, this approach to public procurement will also reduce costs, reduce fragmentation, increase interoperability and strengthen our industrial defense base.

The EU is critical

Although it is not perfect, the renewed support of the EU and the United Kingdom could allow Ukraine to continue to fight while Russia in declining hinders the efforts of war of Poutines.
