Paris military leaders to discuss Ukrainian security guarantees

Military leaders from 30 European countries and NATOs wishing to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine after any negotiated truce with Russia should meet in Paris on Tuesday.
More than three years since Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine, Europe rushes to stimulate its defenses and free itself from dependence on the United States.
The movements are involved while the American president Donald Trump increases the transatlantic alliance and seeks a rapprochement with Moscow.
Trump has renewed communication with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and criticized the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, raising fears of kyiv and among the European allies that the American leader can try to force Ukraine to accept a regulation promoting Russia.
Trump also suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
Ukraine on Tuesday, in talks with American officials in Saudi Arabia, was to offer an air and naval cease -up with Russia, according to a Ukrainian official.
The Paris Military Staff meeting of the Military Staff of 30 countries and NATO – including the United Kingdom and Turkey – will occur the same day, said the French army.
President Emmanuel Macron must contact the meeting, which, according to him, is held in close coordination with the military command of NATO.
Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have led efforts to form a so-called “will of will” to apply a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.
The ministers of defense of the five main military powers in Europe – France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Poland – will then meet Wednesday in the French capital.
These talks will focus on the “necessary rearmament of Europe” and military support for Ukraine, said one of the aid of the French Minister of Defense.
Starmer in turn will organize virtual talks on Saturday with leaders of nations willing to support the ceasefire, said its office.
Macron last week said that all European troops in Ukraine would only be deployed “once a peace agreement is signed, to ensure that it is fully respected”.
He also declared that he would be ready to discuss the extension of France's nuclear deterrence to European partners.
Turkey, with the second largest NATO army after the United States and a Black Sea coast, seeks to play a key role in Europe's security after the Washington pivot away from the region.
Its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, threw his support for Zelensky's call for an aerial and naval truce.
