Earlier in the day, Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoam announced that Prime Minister Modi would be conferred on with the highest distinction of nations, the big commander of the star and the key to the Indian Ocean.

Modi is the first Indian to receive this prestigious prize, which recognizes its contributions to the strengthening of links between India and Mauritius.

This marks the 21st international prize awarded to PM Modi by a foreign nation.
