Erbil, Kurdistan region – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised the historic agreement between the new direction in Damascus on Tuesday and the Syrian democratic forces led by Kurdish (SDF) as a victory for “all our Syrian brothers”.

“The complete implementation of the agreement will serve the security and peace of Syria and the winners of it will be all of our Syrian brothers,” Erdogan said at an Iftar event in Ankara, adding that “the complete implementation of the agreement” “will serve the security and peace of Syria”.

The acting president of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and the head of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, signed a historic agreement on Monday to integrate the homeless in the institutions of the State of Syria.

Erdogan pointed out on Tuesday that Turkey attaches “great importance to the territorial integrity of our neighbor Syria, the preservation of its unitary structure and the strengthening of its unity and its solidarity”.

SDF is a group led by Kurds who emerged as a key ally of the United States in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria.

However, Turkey considers the homeless to be closely linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) that Ankara designates as a terrorist organization, an assertion that the SDF has denied several times. Turkey also feared that the increased force of Kurdish groups in northern Syria can embrace the Kurdish movements inside its own borders.

The dispute led to several military clashes between the Turkish forces and the SDF. Turkey has launched three military operations – Operation Euphrates Shield, Operation Olive Branch and Operation Peace Spring – against the homeless since 2016.

More recently, the SDF reported on Tuesday “intensified attacks” with militants of the Syrian National Army (SNA) supported by the Turks, in northern Syria, near the Tishreen dam and the Qozaq Pont.

“The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries intensified their brutal attacks against the north and east of Syria, committing a massacre yesterday in the Sarrin campaign, which made victims of three children,” said the FDS in a statement.

The SDF blamed the turkey and the activists supported by the Turks for a series of attacks against the Tishreen dam and the Qozaq bridge since December, when a coalition of rebels led by the Islamist regime Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime after taking Damascus.

The strategic location of the dam is essential for Turkey and SNA, because its capture could open the way to an advance in other parts of northeast Syria (Rojava).

The attacks intervened after the head of HTS and the acting president of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and the chief of the homeless man, Mazloum Abdi, put pen on paper on a historic agreement that would see the SDF integrated into the Syrian security apparatus. The agreement includes a cease-fire across the country.

Rojava authorities have expressed serious concerns about attacks on the Tishreen dam, warning that constant attacks could lead to its potential collapse and human disaster.
