New Delhi: Maurice Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoam announced on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be awarded to the country's highest civil award, the big commander of the Star Order and the Indian Ocean Key (GCSK).
With this honor, Prime Minister Modi becomes the first Indian to receive the highest price in Mauritius. This also adds to its growing list of international distinctions, which makes it the 21st recognition of this type granted by a foreign nation.
During the announcement, Prime Minister Maurice Navinchandra Ramgoam said the big commander of the Star Order and the Indian Ocean key is very suitable, the Prime Minister. He added that since Mauritius has become a Republic, only five foreign dignitaries have received the prize, including Nelson Mandela, which was honored in 1998.
The announcement was made at an Indian community event, where the national anthems in India and Mauritius were played in the presence of PM Modi and Prime Minister Ramgolam.
Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Modi said: “I humbly accept this decision with great respect. It is an honor for the historical link between India and Mauritius.” He thanked the people and the government of Mauritius for the prestigious recognition.

Prime Minister Modi, who is in Mauritius for a two -day visit, attended the celebrations of the National Day of the countries as a guidance, highlighting the solid diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi presented the president of Maurice Dharambeer Gokhool and the First Lady with OIC cards. He also offered them water from Sangam Sainte Sangam in Mahakumbh in a brass and copper jar, a Makhana supervision and a Sari Banarasi in a Sadeli box.
