Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the highest distinction from Mauritius on Wednesday, the great commander of the Etoile order and the key to the Indian Ocean, describing it as a tribute to the searious cultural and historical ties of kinship between the two nations.

Mr. Modi, who is visiting two days, was awarded to the price of the president of Maurice Dharam Gokhool during the 57th celebrations of the national day of the island nation.

Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian leader to receive this prestigious prize, which recognizes his contributions to strengthening the links between India and Mauritius.

“I express my great gratitude for having been conferred on the largest national prize in Mauritius. It is not only my honor. It is the honor of 1.4 billion Indians. It is a tribute to the searious cultural and historical ties between India and Mauritius,” said Mr. Modi.

Thanks to their hard work, these people wrote a golden chapter in the development of Mauritius and contributed to its dynamic diversity, he said.

“I accept this price with humility and gratitude. I dedicate it to your ancestors who came from India to Mauritius centuries ago and to all their generations,” he said.

“The prize is a recognition of our shared commitment to peace, progress, security and regional sustainable development. It is a symbol of shared hope and aspiration from the world South,” he said.

“I also kiss this honor as responsibility. I reaffirm our commitment that we will continue to make all efforts to improve the strategic partnership of India-Mauritius to higher summits,” he said.

National day celebrations

During national day celebrations, a contingent of the Indian navy participated in the parade. An Indian naval ship also made a port to coincide with national day celebrations.

“Honored to attend the celebrations of the National Day of Mauritius! By wishing that the inhabitants of Mauritius have continued prosperity and success when we also strengthen the links deeply rooted between our countries,” published Mr. Modi on X.

Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgolam announced on Tuesday that Mr. Modi would be conferred with the highest distinction of nations.

Mr. Modi is the fifth national foreigner to receive this distinguished recognition.

This marks the 21st international prize awarded to Prime Minister Modi by a foreign nation.

Vajpayee Institute inaugurated

Prime Minister Modi, as well as Ramgoam, jointly inaugurated Atal Bihari Vajpaye Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Mauritius.

It will serve as a hub for learning, research and public services.

Funded by a subsidy of $ 4.74 million under a 2017 memorandum of understanding, the advanced institute will meet the training needs of Mauritian officials through ministries, public offices, parastatal organizations and government companies. Beyond the training, the Institute would serve as a center of excellence in public administration, promoting research, governance studies and institutional links with India, the press information office said in a press release.

These capacity building exchanges added depth to the solid ties of people to the person between the two nations, he said.
