The PM in Poland Tusk meets the Turkish Erdogan to discuss security in Europe
On March 12, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara To discuss the role of Turkey in peace and security insurance in Europe. Their talks focused on the war in Ukraine, allied cooperation and bilateral relations in the middle of the presidency of Poland in the European Union Council.
The president of Turkey noted that “with the strength that we draw from our deeply rooted history, Poland covering more than six centuries, we have openly addressed all the problems concerning our region as two allies and strategic partners.”
Tusk proposed that Turkey assumes a greater joint responsibility for the peace process, emphasizing the close ties between Poland and Turkey in matters of defense and economic issues. He reiterated the clear position of Poland on the Ukrainian conflict, pleading for a rapid ceasefire and a just peace.
Erdogan pointed out that Turkey and Poland, as NATO key allies with the largest terrestrial armies in Europe, play a crucial role in regional security. He expressed a common commitment to improving bilateral relations and stressed the importance of the continuation of membership in Turkey, urging Poland to support these efforts.
The discussions also mentioned Turkey’s desire to facilitate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia and the positive implications of recent Ukrainian-American negotiations concerning a cease-fire. Erdogan called for a collaborative approach to reaching sustainable peace in the region.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral economic and commercial relations.
“We are determined to further advance our commercial volume and our mutual investments, which reached approximately $ 12 billion in 2024. We determined $ 15 billion as a new commercial volume objective,” said President Erdogan.
