Trump's economic problems have put the republicans on the defensive

The high -speed approach to Washington President Donald Trump, forced his allies to fight a defensive posture explaining his plans after being executed and has raised alarms in his republican party that everything could end in a wreck.
The concerns are particularly acute with regard to the economy, the industrial average of Dow Jones having lost around 7% of its value this month and many economists projecting slower growth or an upcoming recession. These fears have not dissuaded Trump from continuing to impose prices on enemies and friends who appear to increase prices on American consumers and reduce jobs, subsidies and contracts of the federal government.
“There are concerns,” said a person who has been involved in discussions on the economy with White House officials. These effects on the markets and the economy are felt immediately, while policies aimed at reducing growth, including tax reduction and regulations, will take much more time to implement, said this person.
In private, officials of the National Economic Council of the White House indicated fears that it could be difficult to bounce back quickly after a slowdown, said two people familiar with internal discussions of the White House.
A second person who frequently speaks to administration officials said that the White House was trying to take a long view of economic tremors. But this approach is accompanied by a significant risk both for the economy and for the political position of the Republicans if the reversal does not occur. Many of these administration officials think that prices are not a solid policy and will not be promulgated for an extended period, but said that Trump “does not want to talk to them at the moment.”
The White House did not respond to a request for comments.

The dark economic clouds oblige those responsible for the Trump administration in the delicate position to explain why a president who has promised to stimulate the economy simply by winning the elections now faces a decrease in stock prices, the job losses that he has suffered with unilateral reductions to government agencies and increasing predictions of a sloping economy.
“It has always been part of the plan,” said the secretary of agriculture on Tuesday, Brooke Rollins, on Fox News, perhaps forgetting that the promises of the Trump campaign campaign. “The president is so focused on the short term. … He really wants to repair America.”
It is a different feeling of what Trump expressed on the campaign track as he asked for votes.
“From the first day of my new administration, we will end inflation and we will return to affordable America again,” he said during a rally in Saginaw, Michigan, in October.
Messaging complications exceed its management of the economy and extend to the interior policies that have been undertaken without congresses.
The Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, who briefly experienced half of the workers in her department this week, said on Wednesday on social networks that the objective of action “was not to withdraw education”.
It is to withdraw bureaucracy from education, McMahon wrote, who was responsible for eliminating the entire education department.
The layoffs, affecting thousands of workers, have been announced while Trump pushes Congress to send him a spending bill which would provide tens of billions of dollars to a department he said that he intended to eliminate completely.
Senator Mike Rounds, RS.D. said he was thinking that Trump had a latitude to continue the prices of commercial wars that had already been imposed on Europe, China, Canada and Mexico this year, but not at a long -term cost.
“Listen, it's not the way I would,” said Rounds about the end of the White House. “I think they want to try something different from the previous administration, but they have to show some success fairly quickly.”
Republican colleagues in Rounds give mixed examinations on Trump's trade policies, some of which were announced, then quickly reversed following reprisals by other countries and setbacks of national companies.
Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., Said dramatic prices on Canada and Mexico could be devastating for the economy, including in his country of origin.
“There are stories that come out of cars that cost $ 10,000 more. And, of course, were worried about Bourbon. We want to sell our bourbon. The Canadians will block our bourbon, said Paul.” Now that you add wood costs to this and steel with prices, no one at home came to me and please say put prices on.
For the Republicans faced with a re -election of next year, omens of economic agitation are not welcome. Trump has not excluded a recession.
“This is not what you want to hear,” said senator Thom Tillis, RN.C., who is on the ballot in 2026. However, he added that Trump could be right to set realistic expectations.
“On the one hand, it is honest, but on the other hand, we must do our best to avoid it for various reasons,” said Tillis. “It didn't really scare me. I have more concern for the impact he has on investment and economic growth.”
Republican senator Tim Sheehy, newly elected to a safe seat in Montana, said that he was entirely behind Trump's economic movements.
“The stock market does not like uncertainty, and for the moment, people do not know what will follow,” said Sheehy. “I think what we are going to see is throughout the year, we will see one of the strongest economies of a generation when we redirect the government's budgetary position as a strength and growth. … So temporary disturbances, but growth is coming.”
What is confusing for many Trump allies is his decision to inject uncertainty himself. For decades, especially as a presidential candidate, Trump considered prices as an economic boon for the country. He describes them as a tax on foreign countries. But the cost of tasks, according to most economists, are ultimately supported by American companies and consumers.
Legislators, donors and business leaders are concerned about pricing policies and the wider economy, said an ally of Trump who heard of the three groups. These concerns concern less the concept of prices and more on what seems to be a lack of strategy to brandish and impose them, said this person.
But the needle evolves with regard to trade policy and government cuts that have raised the anger of the voters of the legislators, said a republican strategist whose customers include members of the Chamber and the Senate.
“At one point, the members of the Congress are starting to go into Freak-out mode,” said the strategist. “I do not know that this point has been reached on the economy in itself. I think it has been reached on some of the Doge's stuff and some of the prices.”
