Maurice gives his highest distinction to the PM Narendra Modi | The Daily Tribune

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was granted Tuesday with Mauritius' highest honor, the big commander of the Star Order and the Indian Ocean Key. Mr. Modi is the first Indian to receive the honor, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). It is the 21st international honor granted to Mr. Modi by a foreign country.
Mr. Modi reached Maurice early on Tuesday and he called the president of Maurice Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House. As a special gesture, Mr. Modis has given the cards of citizenship abroad (OCI) to President Gokhool and the First Lady Vrinda Gokhool. President Gokhool organized a state lunch for the Indian Prime Minister.
Mr. Modi also paid tribute to the samadhis of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth in the Botanical Garden of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoalam, where he was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Maurice Navinchandra Ramgoalam. “On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi recalled the lasting inheritances of the two leaders in Mauritius' progress and the construction of a solid foundation for the links of Mauritius,” said the MEA in a press note.
Mr. Modi spoke to a meeting of the Indian community in Mauritius and recalled the historical and cultural links that exist between India and Mauritius. Speaking on occasion, the PM thanked Maurice for giving him his highest distinction. “It is a recognition and an honor of the historical links between India and Mauritius. It is an honor for the Indians who, for generations, have served Maurice, ”said Mr. Modi, speaking in Hindi.
Mr. Modi is visiting two days in Mauritius, where he will be the main guest during the celebrations of the National Day of Mauritius on Wednesday. “I had a big meeting with His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, president of Maurice. He knows the culture of India and India well.
Mr. Modi said that it was an honor for him to attend the celebrations of the National Day of Mauritius as a guest in chief for the second time.
He offered Sangam Holy Sangam water from Maha Kumbh in a brass and copper jar, and Makhana (the superality of the bihar) to Mr. Gokhool. The PM presented a Banarasi silk sari from Varanasi in a complex Tareli box, from Gujarat to Mrs. Gokhool.
After the talks, President Gokhool organized a state lunch in honor of Prime Minister Modi. Mr. Modi also visited the Ayurveda garden in the State House, established in collaboration with the government of India. The Prime Minister said that Mauritius is an important partner for India to advance the advantages of traditional medicine, including Ayurveda.
“It is laudable that an Ayurvedic garden was built in the state house in Mauritius. I am also happy that the Ayurveda is gaining popularity in Maurice. President Dharambeer Gokhool and I went to the Ayurvedic garden, giving me the opportunity to see him track,” posted Mr. Modi on X.
Earlier, Mr. Modi received a warm welcome at the airport when he arrived in the country after almost a decade. Mr. Modi had visited Maurice last time in 2015.
