Schumer vote to keep the government open

The head of the Senate minority, Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., says that he will vote to keep the government open, warning that a closure has less good consequences for the Americans and would only allow President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

“I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country to minimize damage to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not close it,” said Schumer, speaking on Thursday in the Senate.

The Democratic leader has shaken a list of reasons why he does not agree with the STOPGAP expenses bill, but added: “I think that allowing Donald Trump to take even more power via a government closure is a worse option.”

A vote to limit the debate on the short -term expenditure bill, known as continuous resolution, is temporarily scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Friday. There is not yet time defined for a final confirmation vote, and it is not certain that the measure will arouse enough democratic votes to move forward.

Schumer told journalists on Thursday evening that he had made his decision because: “We want the attention of the American people, did not focus on different bills they would bring to earth during the closure. We prefer to focus on our message, which is starting to work.”

According to him, the message of the Democrats is that “they hurt the middle class to give tax reductions for the billionaires”.

When asked what had changed between Wednesday and Thursday to arouse his decision, the Democratic chief told journalists: “Yesterday, there was not enough votes to adopt it.”

“I thought I would let people know,” said Schumer. “But there have been a bunch of undecided votes. And while the members studied and watch it, everyone makes their own decision.”

If a bill of expenditure is not adopted at 11:59 am Friday, the government will officially enter a closure.

Fetterman said that allowing this to happen would be “a gift for republicans”.

Democrats in the congress have long criticized their republican counterparts to be apparently much more ready to allow a closure, some even considering that it is necessary.

On the other hand, the legislators of the Democratic Party have always opposed it and allowing it to occur in this case would be an important departure.
